Hidden Transmitter Hunting
One of the fun activities of Amateur Radio operators is hidden transmitter hunting. A 2 meter transmitter which sends out a signal or recorded message is hidden in a less than conspicuous location. Using sophisticated receiving equipment, "hams" try to locate the transmitter. Boundaries are always established and announced in advance and the signal is readible throughout the bounded area. Locating the transmitter requires skill, analytical reasoning, map reading and sometimes just plain old luck. While it is optimal to have your own doppler antenna system, there are always spots available for those who would like to ride along and serve as navigator and co-pilot.
Following the hunt, the group gathers at a local eatery for good food and good conversation.
